Planet Hollywood Auctions Off "Muppet Treasure Island" Costumes!

Planet Hollywood auctioned off a bunch of their memorabilia including costumes from Muppet Treasure Island.

As you'll see in the video below from Attractions Magazine, items from Gremlins, Back to The Future, Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Beetlejuice are included in the auction as well as Kermit and Tim Curry's Captain Smollet and Long John Silver Muppet Treasure Island outfits.

 

Heritage Auctions started the bidding at $2,000 for the Kermit the Frog "Captain Abraham Smollett" Ensemble:

Description: 

Muppet Treasure Island (Buena Vista, 1996), Kermit the Frog "Captain Abraham Smollett" Ensemble. Original (11) piece ensemble including (1) black frock-style coat with gold stitching, (1) ivory waistcoat with gold stitching, (1) pair of black breeches, and (1) long-sleeved ivory shirt with ruffled cuffs. The accessories included are: (1) black tricorn hat with gold stitching, (1) pair of ivory boots with button and buckle closures, (1) black cravat-style necktie, (1) black and red striped waist tie, (1) brown leather belt, (1) 19th century-style gray wig with ponytail and black bow, and (1) Kermit-sized sword with gold basket hilt that has some green coating from oxidation.
 
This outfit is worn by Captain Abraham Smollett (Kermit) throughout the film as he captains the ship, "Hispaniola." Ensemble displays some production wear. Obtained from Jim Henson Productions. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.

And $1,000 for Tim Curry "Long John Silver" Costume Ensemble:

Muppet Treasure Island (Buena Vista, 1996), Tim Curry "Long John Silver" Costume Ensemble. Original outfit including (1) ornate red felt coat featuring black cuff and lapel accents with gold embroidered floral and leaf patterns, decorative gold buttons, pleating on the back, and original Angels' label reading "Tim Curry, April 1995", (1) brown and red striped cotton wide leg capris with original Angels' label reading "Tim Curry, April 1995", (1) black leather shoulder belt, (1) black long-sleeved blouse with lace cuff accents; (1) red and black striped neck scarf with black fringe accents; (1) red and gold head scarf; and (1) black tricorn hat with gold leaf and feather accents.  

 Long John Silver (Tim Curry) can be seen in the outfit throughout the Brian Henson film. Outfit exhibits production wear including staining and loose seams. Obtained from Jim Henson Productions. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.

The auction ended Mar 24 with Tim Curry "Long John Silver" Costume selling for $10,000. and Kermit the Frog "Captain Abraham Smollett" Ensemble selling for $15,000.

Vanity Fair has a "First Look" at Ron Howard's upcoming documentary Jim Henson: Idea Man.

The article not only reveals the documentary will feature new interviews with Rita Moreno, Frank Oz, Lisa Henson, and Jennifer Connelly

But also reveals the documentary will stream on Disney+ May 31.

Disney+ Henson Documentary Get's Title / Release Window!

In 2022,we found out Ron Howard was directing a documentary on Jim Henson for Disney+. We know now the title and it's release window thanks to a re-release of Karen Falk's book. 

Simon & Schuster is releasing a new version of Henson archivist, Falk's 2012 book “Jim Henson’s Imagination Illustrated" on August 27th 2024, with new a foreword by Ron Howar

As you can see, the updated cover features a promotion sticker for the Disney+ Original Documentary, “Jim Henson: Idea Man.”

While Disney hasn’t officially announced the release date for “Jim Henson: Idea Man”, with the new version of the book due out in August it's a safe bet the documentary will be released on Disney+ sometime between now and then.

The upcoming documentary promises to be the definitive portrait of Henson, produced with the full participation and cooperation of the Henson family, and will present a fascinating and intimate look at Jim’s illustrious career creating treasured characters and revolutionizing television and film.

With never-before-seen personal archives, the film will give audiences an exciting first-person view into the life of one of the world’s most inspiring and iconoclastic creators through exclusive home movies, photographs, sketches and Henson’s personal diaries.

This new documentary is being produced “with the full participation and cooperation of the Henson family,” according to a release, “and will present a fascinating and intimate look at Jim’s illustrious career creating treasured characters and revolutionizing television and film. With never-before-seen personal archives, the film will give audiences an exciting first-person view into the life of one of the world’s most inspiring and iconoclastic creators through exclusive home movies, photographs, sketches and Henson’s personal diaries.”

No official release date has been announced, but it won’t be too long until “Jim Henson: Idea Man.” is released on Disney+
