General Mills Celebrates 55th Anniversary of Monsters Cereals with Henson Encore!

General Mills is celebrating the 55th anniversary of their monsters cereals with another collaboration with the Jim Henson Company.

General Mills is pouring a bowl of bewitching fun with the return of the limited-edition Monsters Cereals. This year marks the 55th anniversary of Count Chocula, Boo Berry and Franken Berry and to celebrate, the iconic cereals are returning with newly designed packaging and the reimagined puppets created by The Jim Henson Company, first introduced last year.

Over the years, the Monsters have become a beloved tradition — from larger-than-life mascots to sought after collectibles — always signaling the start of the haunting Halloween season. This year, super fans can score a limited-edition fuzzy Count Chocula cereal box, designed to replicate the fleece-like texture of the puppets, available exclusively on Walmart.com for $7.76 starting October 1st.

“For 55 years, the Monsters have brought a smile, and a little thrill, to cereal bowls,” said Megan Brooks, Business Unit Director for Family Favorites Cereal at General Mills. “Fans loved Count Chocula, Boo Berry and Franken Berry reimagined through The Jim Henson Company's creativity last year, so we were excited to team up again to create fresh new packaging designs that celebrate the characters and bring even more Halloween fun to store shelves.”

“Last year, our team from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop had so much fun bringing these beloved Monsters to life as puppets, and we know our fans will enjoy seeing them again this season for more memorable magic,” said Nicole Goldman, Executive Vice President of Branding for The Jim Henson Company. “And new this Halloween, we're giving cereal and Jim Henson Company fans alike the chance to put their creativity to the test by transforming each cereal box into its own Monster puppet.”

The limited-edition collection of Monsters cereals will be available in retailers nationwide later this month.

General Mills Launching Sesame Street Cereal!

General Mills Inc. announced it's launching a Sesame Street cereal to make breakfast "more fun, delicious, and educational."

“We are thrilled to team up with 'Sesame Street' to launch cereals with key nutrients, delicious flavors, and playful learning opportunities to make breakfast that much more meaningful for parents and kids alike,” said Hillary Balma, senior brand manager at General Mills, in a news release. “We know that breakfast can be challenging for parents who are struggling to find foods that offer both the nutrition and the fun flavors kids want.”

The back of each box will open like a book and include a short story with Elmo in English and Spanish. Each story follows Elmo as he engages in counting, recognizing shapes and letters.

“Sesame Workshop’s mission is to help kids grow smarter, stronger, and kinder, and that means nourishing the mind and body,” said Gabriela Arenas, vice president of licensing, North America, Sesame Workshop, in the news release. “Breakfast gives kids the boost they need to grow, play, and learn each day.”

Post 's "C is For Cereal"

This isn't' the first time Sesame Street has been "cerialized" though. Back in 2013, Post Foods had a short lived Sesame Street "C is for Cereal" line.

Look for the new Sesame Street cereal in January when it will launch with two flavors:

The C is for Cinnamon, which features Cookie Monster and Elmo on the box, includes cinnamon flavored cereal pieces in A-Z letter shapes.

The 1 2 3 Berry, which has Elmo and Abby Cadabby on the box and includes berry flavored cereal pieces in 0-9 number shapes.
