New Dark Crystal Game Coming from River Horse!

River Horse is following up on their Labyrinth board game with one based on The Dark Crystal!

While no official word from Rover Horse has been released yet, Australian online retailer Popcultcha, not only announced the game - but has also said that it's already available for pre-order!

Here is the official description:

Will Jen and Kira manage to find the Shard and heal the Dark Crystal? Only you can decide their fate with this amazing Dark Crystal Board Game based on the classic 1982 film by Jim Henson! 

You'll be lost in the magic of the game, which can be played by up to 3 people on a 2' × 2' game board - lavishly illustrated with inspiring new artwork featuring all the legendary places from the movie, including Aughra’s Observatory, the Valley of the Stones and the Crystal Castle. 

With The Dark Crystal getting its own prequel series on Netflix soon, what better way to celebrate than with the official Dark Crystal Board Game?!

4 x Highly collectable player tokens featuring figurine renditions of the main characters:
2 x Gelflings - Jen and Kira (with Fizzgig!).

New Deluxe Labyrinth Game Pieces On The Way!

River Horse announced this week that in addition to their Labyrinth goblin expansion pack, they will now also be offering deluxe game pieces of the main set of characters.

Each of the "deluxe" figures is three times the size of the regular game pieces and are the same size of the original sculpts. River Horse is touting these as "copies of the originals."

The set is currently only available for pre-order through River Horse and no street date (other than late 2017) for a general release has been given at this time. 

River Horse Labyrinth Goblins!

The goblin expansion pack for River Horse's Labyrinth game is now available to pre-order!

The set will be released late summer and you will need a copy of the board game to use the contents to use them.

Labyrinth's 30th Anniversary!

30 years ago today, the world first entered the word of Labyrinth. I remember exactly where I saw it (it's now a Walgreens - natch) and it was the 2nd, possibly third (Follow that Bird, and Muppets Take Manhattan being other two) Henson film I had the pleasure of seeing in a theater!

In celebration of today's anniversary, River Horse has unveiled a sneak peak at the final lineup of Goblins in the expansion pack (sold separately) to their upcoming Labyrinth board game!

While not an initial box office success, it's great that so many people have found the film since. 

Personally, though I loved it from the start. My birthday cake that year even featured my favorite character from the film!

River Horse Labyrinth Game Board!

River Horse previewed another piece of the their upcoming Labyrinth game and this time it's the board itself!

From their newsletter: 

"As you can see, the board is very simplistic, beautifully illustrated and dominated by the titular Labyrinth. This is the maze that players must navigate every time they wish to save Sarah’s baby brother. Each game is different with the blank card spaces being filled with the magical encounters and monsters that are depicted on the deck of cards that comes with the game, this ensures a great deal of replayability and unpredictability in the game, giving the Labyrinth its signature feel."

"The game consists of two distinct stages, one where the group must adventure through the labyrinth trying to find the goblin city whilst keeping their willpower as high as possible (nobody wants to fall into the oubliette!), and a second action packed stage where the players must fight their way into Jareth’s castle where Sarah must say the magical words that will release her brother."

We also now have a shot not only of the box,

but everything it contains as well!

The game is said to include:

• 5 highly collectible figurine renditions of the main characters
• 2′ x 2′ game board lavishly illustrated with inspiring new artwork featuring all the legendary places from the movie, including the Oubliette, the Bog of Eternal Stench, the Goblin City and Jareth’s Castle.
• 32 Labyrinth cards

• 6 reference cards
• 4 character sheets, 4 Ability cards & 4 Weakness cards
• 4 card stand-ups: Humongous, Goblin Infantry, Goblin Cavalry & Goblin Artillery

• Rules Booklet

Based on these images as well as the one below from the rule book, it doesn't appear that any Goblin figures will be included with the game.  

Hopefully, they'll be available separately or as part of an expansion pack.

River Horse Labyrinth Game - First Peek Goblin!

Over the weekend news broke the The Jim Henson Company has  a Labyrinth "reboot" in the works.

Scriptwriter Nicole Perlman later clarified via twitter that it won't be a reboot, and that "Labyrinth is my favorite film from childhood, so I share your concerns that any continuation of the world be handled with love and respect."

Speaking of new goings on in the word of Labyrinth, River Horse is hard at work on their upcoming game based on the film. 

They've been great about showing off the progress of the figures for the game and today we present their first Goblin:

We also learned that these figures will be available separately from the game itself.

"Along with the board game we will be releasing some collectible figurines sculpted by Johnny, which can of course be used in the game.

These figurines will be well known characters from the Labyrinth. I won't spoil the surprise by telling you which, but here is a peek at one of them.

These are the first pics of the 3-up Ludo for our upcoming Labyrinth board game.
Ludo has been sculpted by Johnny Frazer-Allen, who we are glad to say will be working on all the figures for the game.
As for the game itself, the base game is written and will soon be sent out to an elite team of playtesters for feedback.  Alessio has already played the game at his local gaming club and it went down really well, even with someone who hadn't seen the film (but will now be ordering the dvd!).

River Horse Labyrinth Game - First Peek at Hoggle!

River Horse is developing a Labyrinth game and revealed the first look at the Hoggle figure.

We thought that you'd like to know how we are doing with the Labyrinth game, well,the first draft of the mechanics is written and we are into the playtest stage. We are going through the archives and pictures from the nice chaps at Henson, we have also been lucky enough to land a top notch sculptor to help bring the figures to life:  Mr Johnny Fraiser. As you can see by the pictures, his sculpt of Hoggle is spot on!  Johnny is a massive fan of the Labyrinth and we think you can see just how much when you look at some of his other projects, The Gloaming, The Wandering Woods, and from some of the games he is working on here.

New Labyrinth Board Game Announced!

Board game developer River horse has partnered with The Jim Henson Company to create a board game based on the movie Labyrinth.

"We can’t, at time of writing, tell you much more about it at the moment, but rest assured that the film is a firm favorite here at River Horse and we are very excited to be making the game."
