The Jim Henson Company Announces Immersive Storyteller: The Seven Ravens!

The Jim Henson Company announced a new immersive augmented reality experience in development based on The Storyteller: The Seven Ravens.

The full press release is below:
The Jim Henson Company, renowned leader in family entertainment, and Felix & Paul Studios, leaders in immersive storytelling, today announced a new project in development: The Storyteller: The Seven Ravens, a groundbreaking augmented reality (AR) experience. The new chapter of Jim Henson’s classic The Storyteller will be an innovative and ground-breaking addition to the acclaimed television series, in the form of an augmented reality (AR), trackable storybook. Award-winning author Neil Gaiman (Anansi Boys, The Graveyard Book) will voice the role of the narrator. The experience will be demoed in the Siggraph Talks track at the Siggraph virtual conference starting August 17, 2020, with a live Q&A the week of August 24, 2020 to discuss the project’s tracking module.

The Storyteller: The Seven Ravens is an extension of The Jim Henson Company’s popular franchise, that re-envisions folk stories, legends, and fables from around the world. In The Seven Ravens, a young girl sets out on an adventure to save her seven brothers from a curse that turned them into ravens. The AR book experience will allow people to interact with, explore, and re-explore the detailed and robust world of The Storyteller through the lens of The Seven Ravens tale.
Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: The Seven Ravens is produced by The Jim Henson Company and Felix & Paul Studios with support from the Canadian Media Fund, Magic Leap Independent Creators Program, Epic MegaGrants and SODEC Quebec. Stéphane Rituit executive produced as well as Lisa Henson and Blanca Lista of The Jim Henson Company.

“Partnering with Felix & Paul Studios on this innovative project will bring our fans even closer to The Storyteller, immersing them into the classic tale of The Seven Ravens like never before,” said Lisa Henson, CEO of The Jim Henson Company. “‘Through the magic of augmented reality, readers will be both amazed and surprised by how the story comes to life visually and in a truly interactive format. It is also exciting to have Neil Gaiman, the storyteller of our time, lend his voice to this project.”
The Seven Ravens is the next step in immersive storytelling, truly bringing a storybook to life,” said Paul Raphael, co-founder and creative director of Felix & Paul Studios. “We are lucky to be partnering with The Jim Henson Company and Neil Gaiman on this project and can’t wait to show a sneak preview at this year’s Virtual Siggraph conference.”

More Muppets Now Promotion and Reviews!

We're back with some more reviews and promotion for Muppets Now. Including Miss Piggy on The View, Kermit, Piggy and the gang previewed the show for Entertainment Tonight Canada.

Miss Piggy told Whoopi Goldberg about her new career venture Muppets Now on The View

CNN says "Basically, "Muppets Now" fits nicely in the filler bin of the streaming business model -- the kind of show that would motivate relatively few people to subscribe, but given that it's a recognizable commodity, you might watch if you're getting Disney+ already.

Kermit, Miss Piggy and more previewed the show for Entertainment Tonight Canada:

Granted, that's hardly a ringing endorsement, but on the bright side, it's more enthusiastic than any review the gang would receive from Statler and Waldorf."
While The Sandusky Register says that "Disney redeems Muppets."

Last, but not least, TV Guide gave Muppets Now a Cheers!

You can watch Muppets Now on Disney+!

Kermit Guest Stars on Amphibia!

Last year Kermit became a "consultant" on Disney's animated show Amphibia, and now he's voicing a character in an upcoming episode.

Kermit will voice the character "Crumpet the Frog" who looks a lot like a cross between Kermit and Dr. Teeth.

Take a look at his appearance below:

Unlike Fozzie's voice work on Big City Greens though, Crumpet's voice is credited to Muppet performer Matt Vogel and not Kermit. The nerve of that guy.

Kermit's episode of Amphibia "Swamp and Sensibility" aired this past Saturday, and is available on Disney Channel Now and On Demand.

Elmo's Virtual Scavenger Hunt!

Elmo is hosting a virtual scavenger hunt tomorrow on HBO Max.

Check out the full press release below:

Summer is in full swing on Sesame Street! Elmo and his friends are back with new games, activities, and celebrity guests – all from the safety of home – in a brand-new Max Original, Elmo’s Playdate: Scavenger Hunt, created and produced by nonprofit educational organization Sesame Workshop and available on HBO Max Thursday, August 6.
Silliness and surprise twists abound in the half-hour special, in which Elmo teams up with Abby Cadabby via video chat for a virtual scavenger hunt. Aided by Sesame Street friends Big Bird, Grover, Rosita, Oscar the Grouch, Bert and Ernie, Elmo’s dad Louie, and tiger Mr. Stripey, the duo invites children to join in the search for all seven items on their list using the printable worksheet linked here. Along the way, “Monster Foodies” Cookie Monster and Gonger whip up a tasty summer dessert, Amy Sedaris shares an easy craft the whole family can make, and Gabrielle Union leads Elmo and Abby in a sweet sing-along.
“Although summer looks different for many families this year, our Sesame Street characters once again show children that, with a little imagination, staying at home can still be fun,” said Kay Wilson Stallings, Sesame Workshop Executive Vice President of Creative and Production. “We’re grateful to our partners at WarnerMedia and HBO Max for their continued support as we strive to meet the needs of children and families through learning and laughter in these challenging times.”
"The wonderful residents of Sesame Street always know how to make us smile and feel a little better,” said Jennifer O’Connell, Executive Vice President, original content, HBO Max. “Our partnership with Sesame Workshop continues to bring joy to families through their educational entertainment made from compassion, understanding and fun.”
This special is the latest effort around the COVID-19 pandemic from nonprofit Sesame Workshop. Through Caring For Each Other, an initiative created by the Workshop in response to this crisis, families can access free resources specifically designed to provide comfort and manage anxiety, create routines, foster playful learning at home, and help children stay physically and mentally healthy.
Caring For Each Other is funded in part by Sesame Workshop’s new Critical Needs Response Fund, a crucial source of flexible funds designed to meet the urgent needs of children and families.
To drive support for this Fund, Sesame Workshop has partnered with online fundraising platform Omaze to offer another virtual playdate – for one sweepstakes winner and a guest – with Sesame Street’s Big Bird and Abby Cadabby. The sweepstakes is now live and concludes on Wednesday, August 12. More details and official rules available here. No purchase necessary to enter or win.

Elmo’s Playdate: Scavenger Hunt premieres tomorrow, August 6, on HBO Max.
