Support The Trevor Project With a Gonzorella Replica!

Two topics we've been meaning to cover converged over the weekend in a unexpected way. Muppet fan Emily Engel's amazing Muppet replica plush and the debate over Gonzo wearing a dress on a recent episode of Muppet Babies. 

I, perhaps foolishly, felt that the issue of Gonzo wearing a dress was innocuous enough that I simply shared an article about on our Facebook page and not on the blog itself.

The story generated a lot of comments - mostly positive, but sadly it brought out the dark side of a few "Muppet fans" who showed both their intolerance and ignorance. 

In the episode "after hearing the story of Cinderalla, Gonzo wishes he could attend the royal ball in his own gown. Luckily he has a fairy rat-father, Rizzo!"

Everyone should know that simply wearing a dress doesn't make anyone gay, nor is there anything wrong with being gay and that The Muppets have been wearing all kinds of "cross dressing" outfits since their inception. That we even have to explicitly state that is just bizarre. 

Thankfully, there are fans out there like Emily Engel, who not only makes wonderful Muppet plush replicas, but has made a special Gonzorella replica to generate funds for the Trevor Project to push back at the backlash.

I was inspired to create a replica of this now iconic character from The Muppet Babies in response to the inappropriate backlash. Gonzorella represents inclusion, acceptance and the freedom to be exactly who and what you are! With that, 100% of the proceeds (minus shipping cost) of this auction will go to benefit The Trevor Project—Voted the best online Transgender support group for young people in crisis for 2021.

Gonzorella measures 18" tall and is completely handmade, from head to glass sneaker!

It was an honor and pleasure to replicate this character and I look forward to sending him to a happy home!
