The Muppets have a grand tradition with the Macy's parade going back to Sesame Street's first appearance in 1974.
Kermit first appeared in balloon form in 1977, which continued to operate until 1991.
In 2002, a new Kermit balloon debuted which was seen in the parade until 2012.
The actual Muppet characters have even made a few appearances in the felt, including 1979 to promote The Muppet Movie and 1981 The Great Muppet Caper. In 1987, Jim Henson and Kermit received the Rollie Award, while in 1990 Kermit and Miss Piggy appeared as costumed characters.
I believe we're in for a real treat as The Muppets are not only set to appear for the first time in 7 years, but open the parade as well!
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air on Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 24th at 9am EST on NBC. Set those DVR's!
