But, let's start at the beginning with the simple tweet that started it all.
“Elmo is just checking in! How is everybody doing?”
“Elmo is just checking in! How is everybody doing?”
The tweet got more 200 million views and received responses from everyday people answering honestly that things with them weren't OK.
Including:
"Every morning, I cannot wait to go back to sleep. Every Monday, I cannot wait for Friday to come. Every single day and every single week for life,” a user wrote.and “Not well. I serve in Congress.” from Florida politician Jared Moskowitz:
The Sesame Street account also responded with a tweet linking to mental health resources:
The next day Elmo responded to the outpouring with, "Wow! Elmo is glad he asked! Elmo learned that it is important to ask a friend how they are doing. Elmo will check in again soon, friends! Elmo loves you. #EmotionalWellBeing"
This post was retweeted by none other then the President of the United States adding, "Our friend Elmo is right: We have to be there for each other, offer our help to a neighbor in need, and above all else, ask for help when we need it."
I know how hard it is some days to sweep the clouds away and get to sunnier days.

Our friend Elmo is right: We have to be there for each other, offer our help to a neighbor in need, and above all else, ask for help when we need it.

This viral sensation promoted an interview with Christina Vittas, Sesame Workshop's Social Media Manager who tweets for Elmo.
As well as invitation for Elmo and his Dad Louie to appear on the Today show to talk about kids mental health...
Where Larry David was promoting the final season of Curb your Enthusiasm. For some reason Larry thought Elmo deserved a little tough love and scrunched his face without warming.
This prompted another viral moment about consent, physical boundaries, and a reminder that there is a person under the red fur.
The outcry prompted a response from David on Late Night with Seth Meyers:
As well as Elmo puppeteer Ryan Dillon, who responded to the altercation with a video from his Dillon Gale Puppet troupe featuring cameos from Sesame performers Tyler Bunch, Peter Linz, Stephanie D’Abruzzo, Jen Barnhart, Eric Jacobson, Pam Arciero, David Rudman, Carmen Osbahr, Bradley Freeman, Lindsey Briggs, Leslie Carrara-Rudolph, Lara MacLean, Martin P. Robinson and Frankie Cordero.
All from a Elmo's simple “How is everybody doing?” tweet. We can't wait to see what happens if Snuffy ever finds out if he's related to elephants or Woolly Mammoths!
