Library of Congress Finds it's Rainbow Connection!

The National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress has honored the classic Muppet Movie song ‘The Rainbow Connection.’

Each year the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress recognizes songs and audio recordings “worthy of preservation for all time based on their cultural, historical or aesthetic importance in the nation’s recorded sound heritage.”

The class of 2020 includes Janet Jackson, Kool & the Gang, Patti Labelle, Jackson Browne, Nas, Louis Armstrong Thomas Edison and Kermit the Frog!

Written by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher and sung by Kermit the Frog, "The Rainbow Connection" became an instant classic from The Muppets very first film The Muppet Movie (which itself was added to the library of congress in 2009). The song was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song and has since been covered dozens of times by a variety of artists including The Muppets themselves.

Besides The Muppet Movie, The Muppets have performed the on the Academy awards, The Muppet Show, The Muppet Show on Tour, The Muppets: A Celebration of 30 Years, Muppets at Walt Disney Wolrd, Muppet Fest, Extreme Makeover Home Edition, 2011's The Muppets, Good Morning AmericaThe Bachelorette, The Queen Latifah Show, The Muppets Take The Bowl, American Idol, Seth Rogens' Hilarity for Charity, The Late Late Show with James Cordon, The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, The Newport Folk Festival and MANY, MANY, MORE.
