RIP Glenda Jackson (1936 - 2023)

Glenda Jackson, the Tony, Emmy, two-time Academy Award-winning actress, and politician has died.


She began her acting career in 1964 with the Royal Shakespeare Company playing Charlotte Corday in Peter Brook's production of Marat/Sade which she reprised in the 1967 film.

Her film roles include Women in Love and A Touch of Class winning Academy Awards for both. Other roles included Sunday Bloody Sunday and Mary, Queen of Scots

Jackson won two Emmy's Queen Elizabeth I in the BBC series, Elizabeth R.


She appeared during the 5th season of The Muppet Show where she tell the world know she was actually a secret pirate then taking over show. 


In 1992, she turned to politics, becoming a Labour MP in England for 23 years. During that time, Jackson was appointed a junior transport minister in 1997 and held the post for two years. 

She ran for London's mayor in 2000, but lost to Ken Livingstone.

She returned to acting and recently completed filming The Great Escaper in which she co-starred with The Muppet Christmas Carol's Michael Caine.
