More Muppet Canvas Prints!

Each canvas print in limited to 1,500 and was created by artist Beau Hufford.

Henson Company Searching for "The Ultimate GOAT"!

The Jim Henson Company has teamed up with journalist Rod Berger to develop a new unscripted series called The Ultimate GOAT, which aims to spotlight stellar athletes from around the world.

According to Kidscreen: 

In each show’s 22-minute episodes, Berger and an adventurous goat puppet named Earv travel around the world in search of the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in various sports disciplines. They’ll explore different countries and cultures, interviewing a wide variety of athletes who may be professional league players in traditional sports like soccer or football, or experts in more unusual activities such as extreme ironing.

This is the studio’s first sports-focused project, and the content genre is really heating up right now with kids and buyers globally, says president of television Halle Stanford. “Why haven’t we done this before?” she jokes. “We know there are a few things that bring families together: nostalgia, music, comedy and sports.”

Earv will drive laughs with his potential for physical comedy (he can be rolled down a bowling alley, for example, or punted between football goalposts). But Stanford also expects the show to have a lot of heart as athletes open up to Earv about their struggles and secrets for success. She adds that Henson wants The Ultimate GOAT to inspire kids to find the GOAT inside themselves.

Berger created this series concept with Henson puppeteer and actor Victor Yerrid, who is performing Earv, as well as writing scripts and executive producing along with Lisa Henson and Stanford.

No network or premiere date for The Ultimate GOAT has been announced yet.

RIP James Earl Jones (1931-2024)

Sad news as legendary actor James Earl Jones has died.

Jones had a storied career lending his voice to Star Wars' Darth Vader and Mufasa in The Lion King among many film and television roles including Dr. Strangelove, Conan the Barbarian, Field of Dreams, and Patriot Games.

He got his start on the stage, with a breakout Tony winning role in The Great White Hope on Broadway and reprising it for the 1971 film (earning an Oscar-nomination) and won a second Tony for Fences. 

As prolific as Jones' career was he continually made time for Sesame Street as one of his acting teachers was Will Lee who later played Mr. Hooper. 

Jones is considered to Sesame Street 's first celebrity guest reciting the alphabet

in inserts originally made for the unaired test pilot and subsequently reused in many episodes. 

In 1978, Jones appeared on Sesame Street as a movie star in search of the perfect egg cream.

Jones also hosted the 10th anniversary Sesame Street special "A Walking Tour of Sesame Street", 

and taped a "My Favorite Sesame Street Moment" for the show's 35 season.

“My favorite Sesame Street moment was sitting in Matt Robison's office when they were first putting the show together, and he had asked me to come and do something on it. And I said, "I will, *but* I gotta warn you, the Cookie Monster  and the Muppet characters will not work, because they'll terrify children." What did I know.”

Jones also contributed a "Chilean Sea Bass" recipe for Miss Piggy's "In the Kitchen with Miss Piggy" cookbook and supplied the voice of the Mountain King in the Creature Shop's 1999 TV-movie Merlin.

James Earl Jones was 93.

"Jim Henson Idea Man" Wins Outstanding Documentary Emmy!

Ron Howard's Jim Henson Idea Man won 4 Emmys over the weekend.

The Disney+ produced documentary won Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program, Outstanding Music Composition for a Documentary Series or Special (original dramatic score), Outstanding Sound Editing for a Nonfiction or Reality Program, and the top price Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special.

In a statement, Howard commented, “Jim Henson was a creative genius and artistic pioneer, and we set out to make an ambitious, comprehensive documentary worthy of this incredibly imaginative storyteller. It has been a thrill to revisit his work, and to see new audiences discover him and just how much his innovations in television still have an impact today. It’s been an amazing journey for this film. A heartfelt congratulations to the entire team!”

In addition to the Emmys won on Saturday, Jim Henson Idea Man won a juried award for Outstanding Motion Capture, last month.

University of Maryland Lecture Series With Kermit the Frog!

To celebrate Jim Henson's birthday, his alma mater, The University of Maryland, is hosting a lecture with Kermit the Frog.

To honor the life and legacy of distinguished alum Jim Henson ’60, the College of Arts and Humanities (ARHU) presents a special evening with “the world’s most famous amphibian,” Kermit.

Created by Henson in 1955, Kermit the Frog is a global icon of kindness, positivity, humor and heart. As Henson’s signature Muppet, Kermit starred in Sesame Street, The Muppet Show and numerous films and TV specials, always embodying his creator’s gentle wisdom and creativity.

At UMD, Kermit will be joined by Muppet performer Matt Vogel, along with ARHU Dean Stephanie Shonekan, for a vibrant evening of conversation, reflection and celebration featuring musical performances by students, faculty and members of the community—and of course by Kermit himself.

A signature event of ARHU, this event is co-sponsored by the Arts for All initiative with support from the American Banjo Museum, and created in partnership with the UMD School of Music and the UMD School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies.

 A Q&A will be included.
