SNL Muppet Parodies!

The Muppets have a long history with Saturday Night Live, literally going all the way back to the very first episode. 

For almost as long, SNL has been parodying our favorite fuzzy friends. As SNL celebrates it's 50th anniversary, here are a few of their Muppet parodies.

Sesame Street Celebrates Fathers Day with Friends Parody!

Sesame Street released a new parody video celebrating Father's Day while also spoofing the classic TV series Friends. 

As well as putting a new spin on the Friend's theme and opening credit sequence, the video also manages to squeeze in a few Easter eggs and refences to classis episodes from the series as well.

Sesame Street: Sort it All (Shake It Parody)!

Sesame Street posted a new parody video spoofing Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off."

"Sort it All" features Oscar the grouch singing about sorting the different types of recycling.

Zoey "Sings" while SNL Heckles The Muppets!

A couple of NBC series showed some major Muppet love over the weekend. 

As most Muppet fans have seen my now Saturday Night Live's hand crafted Muppet Show skit blew up the internet thanks in part to media outlets like Variety claiming the puppets were the "actual Muppets."

If you’re one of the only people in the world who has not seen the clip, here it is below.
Spoiler Alert: Those are NOT the actual Muppets. 

However, there was another series that managed to shout the world of Jim Henson without having to punch any geriatric hecklers in the process. 

Zoe‘s Extraordinary Playlist started it’s season finale with one of Sesame Street's most famous songs “Sing."

Family Guy and South Park Show Major Muppet Love!

Last week, just as Kermit was reveled to be one of the Masked Signers, South Park began their quarantine special with a special "Muppetized" disclaimer.

Each South Park episode begins with a similar disclaimer as the one above. As you know Disney+ added a disclaimer to certain episodes of The Muppet Show driving conservative media to label it a part of "Cancel Culture." So it seems very fitting that South Park would parody both so fittingly.

Meanwhile Family Guy, who's known for Muppet references and parodies, went full out this week by starting the episode "The Marrying Kind" with a full rendition of The Muppet Show theme. 

With the Muppets back in the spotlight expect to see many more series to show their Muppet love.

Last night, Saturday Night Live brought us a Joker parody starring David Harbour in the dark, gritty, origin story of Oscar... the GROUCH.

Disney+ Announces New Muppet Lineup! - APRIL FOOLS

Disney announced a wave of new series featuring The Muppets for their upcoming Disney+ streaming service. 

The Newsman chronicles the behind-the-scenes events at Muppet News. It features the Muppet Newman and his staff who set out to put on a news show "in the face of  falling obstacles (literally)  and their own personal entanglements, including a heavy addition to girl scout cookies". 

Sports Guy is a series about a sports announcer Louis Kazagger as he scours the globe for "wild" new Muppet sports to showcase.

Mop & Flow follows the daily life of George the Janitor. After his wife Flow passes away, George begins a new life marrying his mop only to discover that it has been inhabited by the soul of Flow. Hilarity ensures and soap scum jokes abound. 

Bobby Benson's Baby Band is world famous and each of his babies are hot commodities. The Baby-Or, revolves around a single dad Bobby Benson as a pool of romantic interests compete to each baby's sugar mamma.

During the course of the season, the baby eliminates candidates culminating in a marriage proposal to his final selection. The participants travel to exotic locations and have to show how'd they'd handle and care for each baby.

Clifford, leader of 90's band Solid and Foam and featured player from the legendary Electric Mayhem, now lives in mansion with his pet tiger. The reality series Keeping Up With Clifford follows his adventures through the music industry as he mentors a group of up and coming musicians who aim to take Hollywood by storm.

Sesame Street debuted a new viral video about Bert & Ernie became best friends. As if that wasn't enough to pique your interest, it's also a parody of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme!

Are you a fan of both The Muppets and Arrested Development?

You should be, and even if you are, you're probably not as big a fan at both as Jarrod Fairclough over at The Muppet Mindset is. 

He created a perfect mash-up using footage from ABC's The Muppets along with imagery, background music, and in jokes from the FOX/ Netflix series Arrested Development.

Sesame Street Walking Dead Parody!

The 8th season of The Walking Dead premiered last night and like other shows not suitable for kids, Sesame Street has an educational parody.

Happy 50th Anniversary Star Trek!

Today marks the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek. Gene Roddenberry created the now classic sci fi series as sort of a "Wagon Train in the stars."

In the early 1990's, the Jim Henson Company released this "Swine Trek II: The Bath of Pig" image as a poster:

Of course this wasn't the first time The Muppets had spoofed the series - most notably in The Muppet Show's Pigs In Space segments:

These segments were so popular, they received their own book and lunch box!

Star Trek: The Next Generation was later spoofed as Pigs In Space: Deep Dish Nine on Muppets Tonight!

Next Generation star Whoopi Goldberg:

and Beaker taking a Star Trek inspired cruise with George Takei:

There have been many other Henson/ Star Trek connections over the years as well.

Muppet Babies had a few episodes were the characters imagined themselves as the crew of both the classic and Next Generation Enterprises:

Sesame Street, Farscape, and even Fraggle Rock had references to the final frontier too:

One of the mostly unknown connections is that in the late 50's/early 60's, Sir Lew Grade wanted Roddenberry to develop a series and set up his own production company in England. If that sounds familiar, it's almost exactly what happened to Jim Henson almost a decade and a half later!

Hello? New Promo, But No New Muppets Tonight!

The Muppets released a new promo Sunday night for The Muppets during the American Music Awards. 

The promo spoofs Adele's latest hit, "Hello" and is not a promo for a specific upcoming episode, but the for the series itself.

While there's no new episode this week, don't forget a rerun of "Pig Out" with Ed Holmes will air Thanksgiving night and have another great Muppet parody video.

Sesame Street: The Aveggies- Age of Bon Bon (Avengers Parody)!

You may have heard rumblings about a new Avengers movie that is coming out this week. We got an advanced early copy!

That wasn't exactly what we were expecting, but great nonetheless. 

Ohh that wasn't Age of Ultron, but yet another great Sesame Street parody?  That makes sense, I must have been too focused on avoiding spoilers!

Animal & Big Bird's Oscar Worthy Parodies!

After the sensational  "Big Birdman", it was only a matter of time before another Muppet parody was made.

 This time it's Animal vs J.K. Simmons in a Whiplash mashup!

Too Many Cookies!

Last week Adult Swim released a short called "Too Many Cooks" that took the internet by storm.
